Core Services.

Feather Sound Community Services District is organized for the purpose of providing street lighting and the acquisition, development, and maintenance of recreational areas and green space for the residents of Feather Sound. The services are funded by a one mill tax assessed annually on property within the municipal services taxing district and shown with other taxes on annual property tax notices.

Earl R. Maize Recreation Area
& Green Spaces

In 2009 the Feather Sound Community Services District led an effort to create and develop the community playground and green space.  The community raised additional funds through a brick campaign to add the picnic area and green space.

In 2010 the community added a basketball court through a MSTU grant from Pinellas County.  In 2021 the Board added a dog park with partial funding from a MSTU grant.

We respectfully request that all citizens clean up after themselves and leave the playground, basketball court, and green space as they have found it.  The recreation areas are designed and built for the enjoyment of Feather Sound residents.

Landscaping & Entry Features

The Feather Sound Community Services District board is responsible for maintaining the green space for the residents of Feather Sound.  This includes all the landscaping along the easements.  During the board’s monthly meetings, the landscaping is discussed to determine if any areas need to be addressed.    Some of the beautification projects include improvements along the main entrance, and landscaping along the medians in Feather Sound Drive.

Streetlighting

Street lighting is one of the three primary services Feather Sound Community Services District is responsible for.  Safety is our priority.   To report a street light outage submit a street light repair request online.

About
Earl R. Maize

There was a time when Feather Sound did not have streetlights or landscaping.    In 1995 Earl Maize, along with a committee including Jeff Huenink, Kay Watts and others headed up the effort to create the Feather Sound taxing district.  The committee walked house to house collecting donations to promote the concept with the community. Jeff Huenink was a state legislator at the time, and he advanced the policy to have the taxing district approved by the Florida legislature. Once passed, the committee was able to collect 1 mil on the property taxes, which allowed for a budget for landscaping, streetlights and eventually the space for the recreation area.  Mr. Maize passed away in 2011 at the age of 78.
